Howe Sound Women’s Centre Society
DESIGN / CONSTRUCTION
Howe Sound Women’s Centre Society (HSWC) is seeking to explore redevelopment opportunities to expand and strengthen their current operations and programming, while meeting the growing needs of the community. Opportunities include evaluating the feasibility of redeveloping the current administrational headquarters on 3rd Avenue, with the possible relocation of existing transitional housing to the same site.
Growth opportunities that may be available as part of this redevelopment may include but are not limited to: the creation of new second stage affordable rental housing for single women and women with children; additional administration and programming space including a commercial kitchen; and a variety of other rental housing including, potentially, market rental units.
M’akola Development Services worked with HSWC to assess the feasibility of redevelopment options for the society. This assessment included financial modeling, design concepts and liaising with the society and board regarding their priorities and risk tolerance. The outcome of the study provides the Board with information to make an informed decision on next steps. The results are based on the financial, social, and environmental impact of the development, as well as the likelihood of success based on M’akola Development Services’ experience with similar projects.
