James Bay Community Project (JBCP) is redeveloping their existing site at 547 Michigan Street in Victoria BC, to broaden their ability to serve the needs of their community. JBCP has entered into an MOU to purchase several adjacent parcels of land from Songhees Nation which will create a larger land base, economies of scale and allow JBCP to fully realize their project vision.

The development will provide much needed below market and market housing as well as expanded programming space for JBCP and commercial space which will provide rental income to be invested into expanding JBCP operations. The commercial rental component will focus on health services, potential tenants include Life Labs, a pharmacy, a health clinic and offices.  The four-storey mixed-use building will include 42 units of studio, one- and two-bedroom units which will be rented with a mix of rates including market rates and shelter rates.

MDS brokered a partnership between JBCP and Songhees Nation and developed a feasibility study to identify the best-case redevelopment scenario for both proponents. The project is now pursuing different sources of funding.
