M’akola Development Services (MDS) celebrates 27 years this month.
It all began on March 18, 1988 when MDS, originally named Mi’s Kow A Ao Development Society, was formed. Part of the M’akola Group of Societies, Mi’s Kow A Ao is a Cree word meaning hide-and-seek. The Society was established to ensure the appropriate management and development of M’akola projects.
In nearly three decades, MDS has expanded in staff, resources and expertise. Now with seven staff members (full- and part-time), the scope of services MDS is able to offer clients (across BC) has grown to include planning and research, community engagement, development consulting, and asset and operations management services.
In addition to a birthday, we are celebrating the start of construction on our latest project, a purpose-built head office for MDS and the head offices for the M’akola Group of Societies. This site, previously the location of five M’akola-owned townhouse units, will include 36 housing units on floor 2 – 4 of this new building. The future site of MDS is 550 Goldstream Avenue in Langford BC.
Another notable project is the construction of Hope Centre, in Sooke, BC, which opened in late 2014. Hope Centre is a mixed-use building with: housing, a yoga studio, non-profit office space, and a thrift store. The Grand Opening was held on December 17, 2014, where more than 100 stakeholders and community members attended, took a tour of the units, and celebrated the many partners that came together to make this project a reality.
MDS is always looking for exciting opportunities and partnerships. Check our blog to see what we are up to.
