Rosalie’s Village consists of 42 housing units in three buildings: one four-storey, 40,386 sq. ft. apartment building, and two four-unit townhouses. The units include 18 two-bedroom units for single mothers with children, 20 one-bedroom units for older women at-risk, one housemother unit, and three emergency shelter units.
Mary’s Place is an on-site, 1,709 sq. ft., licensed daycare for 37 infants and school-age children. The Village also has a community kitchen, and Rosalie’s Centre for Women and Children provides on-site assistance as required by tenants, including a Woman’s Day program, work training programs, life skills training, emergency relief, vouchers, and workshops. The overarching goal of Rosalie’s Village is to support tenants to establish a plan for independence, and transition them into appropriate long-term housing.
The M’akola Development Services team oversaw all aspects of the project scope, including a feasibility analysis and business plan, funding applications, rezoning and development approvals, capital and operating budgets, planning and design, and risk and contract management. M’akola and the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul brought together several funding partners, including the Capital Regional District, Canada Mortgage and Housing Commission, District of Saanich, BC Housing, and the donations of generous community members.
M’akola’s work on this project was conducted in a thoughtful and collaborative manner, according to the client’s needs. The project was completed on time and under budget.
