CULTURAL & COMMUNITY IMPACT
Will provide affordable housing as a necessary foundation to bring members home including individuals, families, and Elders.
M’akola Development Services (MDS) is working as a development consultant with Hwul’a’mut Housing Society for an affordable housing project at 3205 Spa-ath Road on Tsleil-Waututh Nation IR#3 Reserve Lands.
To directly address TWN’s increasing housing needs, this project will aim to provide 50 units of affordable housing on-reserve to Tsleil-Waututh Nation Members and Indigenous families, Elders, and individuals in their community. The Nation has targeted an intergenerational approach to meeting their housing demands, with the majority of the units being two and three-bedroom units to coincide with the demand for affordable housing for families of the Nation.
For this project, M’akola took over the project from a previous Development Consultant in May 2023. From that point on, MDS supported Hwul’a’mut Housing Society in applying for rezoning and both development and building permits, along with concurrent Society Governance work and into construction. The project is currently in construction and anticipated to reach completion in Winter.
