The Downtown Housing Project, currently under construction, is a mixed-use development designed to bring together affordable housing and community-driven economic activity in downtown Golden. The building will feature ground-floor commercial units with three storeys of affordable rental housing above, offering a mix of one- and two-bedroom homes, including six fully accessible units. Located within walking distance of key amenities and services, the project will provide inclusive, well-connected housing options for a range of residents. The commercial space will serve as a social enterprise hub operated by the Golden Community Economic Development Society (Golden CED), supporting both downtown vitality and long-term housing initiatives for the Society.
This project reflects a strong partnership between local and regional stakeholders. The residential component is funded through BC Housing’s 2023 Community Housing Fund, with additional equity contributions from the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP), Golden CED, and the Columbia Basin Trust’s REDi Grant Program. The Town of Golden further supported the project by selling the land to Golden CED at a reduced price, demonstrating a shared commitment to addressing housing needs and strengthening the community.
